My favourite music-hall joke
his
is an unusual joke for the period: it comes from a 1937 recording by 'Gert and
Daisy', the cockney characters created by Elsie and Doris Waters. Daisy is
talking about her husband, Bert:
DAISY: Oh - Bert's had his summons. GERT: No DAISY: Yes. the usual copper brought it... GERT: What's it for? DAISY: He don't know! - and he was afraid to ask in case it was for something else! Posted: Tue - May 16, 2006 at 09:05 AM by Roger Wilmut |
