It's purely accidental that three of the pictures in this
collection are of Maths masters! - and a little ironic,
considering that it was far from being my best subject. I
only had L.J.C. for one year: though a nice man (and perhaps
a little too gentle for the rough-and-tumble of a school) he
did have a tendency to go too fast for those of us who were
a little mathematically challenged. F.J.D., a more stolid
character, went at a speed I could understand. I'm afraid I
infuriated him by insisting on writing in purple ink
(fountain pens were de rigeur and ballpoints
forbidden) - this was my big rebellion! He didn't like it,
but it wasn't actually forbidden, so he was stuck with
it.
